Join Palm Harbor Library Director Gene Coppola as he leads this bi-monthly art-centered discussion program held at LRMA. You are welcome to bring a lunch and be a part of a lively discussion on art and the book of the month.
January’s book selection is Vincent and Theo: The Van Gogh Brothers by Deborah Heiligman.

For this enriching program, LRMA’s knowledgeable docents research a new or seldom-seen artwork from the museum’s permanent collection and then present their findings to the public on first Fridays from February through May and September through November. Each piece remains on view until the next is unveiled.
This month, in recognition of African-American History Month, LRMA Docent Barbara Schnipper will present on the incredible mixed-media artwork of self-taught artist Mary Proctor.

Great for ages 4-8, this program features books about art, read by Marisa Steuer, Head of Youth Services at Palm Harbor Library. Jade Belanger, LRMA’s Education Assistant, leads a related art activity. February’s theme is Art Makes Me Feel… and the books are The Noisy Paint Box by Barb Rosenstock, My Many Colored Days by Dr. Seuss, and My Heart is Like A Zoo by Michael Hall.

This celebratory event recognizes the power of the female voice in art, enriches the exhibitions Louisa Chase: What Lies Beneath and Woman-Made: From the Collection, as well as honors Women’s History Month (March), International Women’s Day (March 8th), and the centennial of the 19th Ammendment Ratification giving women the right to vote.
Noted Tampa Bay female printmakers from the artist group 24 Hands, including Marjorie Greene Graff, Barbara Hubbard, and LRMA’s own Curator, Christine Renc-Carter, will demonstrate print processes, give talks about printmaking, and lead hands-on art activities throughout the event.
At 1:00pm, keynote speaker Andrew J. Saluti will present insights about Louisa Chase and her emergence and career as a printmaker. Saluti, an assistant professor in the School of Design at Syracuse University, is working on a Louisa Chase catalogue raisonne. Chase graduated from Syracuse with a BFA in 1973. Saluti also organized the recent retrospective exhibition of paintings and prints, Louisa Chase: Below the Surface.
Docent tours of the exhibition and light refreshments will be included.
