Florida Watercolor Society: 44th Annual Exhibition

September 6 – November 1, 2015 • Changing Exhibition Galleries

Formed in 1972, the Florida Watercolor Society (FWS) is the largest state watercolor society in the U.S., and its annual exhibition is recognized as one of the best in the nation. This is the third time LRMA has hosted the FWS exhibition (the museum also hosted the 34th annual in 2005 and the 39th annual in 2010).

FWS defines watercolor as “painting in water-soluble media on all surfaces created for watermedia, such as paper, clay coated surfaces (clapboard, aquaboard), synthetic surfaces (Yupo, Tygerag), illustration board, paper mounted board or flat watercolor canvas.” Awarding-winning watercolor artist Morten (Mort) E. Solberg was the juror for this year’s show, and he selected 100 pieces for the show from 580 entries. The annual exhibition provides Florida watercolor artists a venue to exhibit their work along with fellow watercolorists from around the state.

The exhibition also will coincide with the FWS annual convention (Sept. 28-Oct. 4) being held at the Marriot Hotel in the Gateway area of Pinellas County. Up to 600 attendees from the 1000+ membership are expected to attend the convention meetings, workshops, trade show and awards banquet.
